DIANI 4 KIDS

January 2019.

Today I went to visit a local community school in Mombassa, Kenya.

Here in Kenya, there are different types of schools. A government run school; A school funded by the governement for the children in the local area. A Community school ; A school ran by the community, parents and children, that receives no funding for building, staff, food or stationary.

When visiting the school, we were created by around 100 children of alll different ages and Madam Stella, the head teacher. The children sang to us, showed us their spellings and new maths skills, as well as accepting out stationary gifts, sweets to eat and bubbles to play with.

Madam Stella, opened the school 12.05.2013. 'My main aim of opening the school was to give the poor, orphans, single-parented, H.I.V suffering children the same education as the fortunate children in Kenya'.

Madam Stella, and the three teachers that support her do what they do daily for free of charge, and only have the childrens best interest at heart.

Traveling from the UK, a wealthy, privileged country with all access to free education, Universities, food and water, seeing this truly broke my heart.

Today has opened my eyes to many many things! - We take so many little things for granted when there are people in the world that have nothing.

For my Final Project at University, I will be working alongside Madam Stella to raise money for her community led school. The money raised will go towards building furnished and vented classrooms, a kitchen for their breakfast, lunch and dinner and more stationery for the children.

Today created a very special memory. A memory that will always stay close to my heart.
